Commemorating UN Resolution 181

You may be forgiven if you don't remember right off the top of your head that UN Resolution 181 was the original resolution that partitioned what was then known as "Western Palestine" into two states, one Jewish, the other Arab (Eastern Palestine was not part of the plan - it is known today as Jordan). The vote took place on November 29, 1947, and the resolution passed 33 to 13 with 10 abstentions.

Of course in retropsect, things didn't quite work out as anticipated and the state of Israel was born in a defensive war whose aftermath we're still dealing with today. Perhaps in this decade, nearly 60 years later, we will finally see the emergence of a democratic state of Palestine and the acceptance of Israel by its Arab neighbors.

Israpundit is sponsoring a blogburst to commemorate this milestone, so please read their post (and many others listed below).
